Emax Campaigns Against Polythene Bags



Young enthusiasts and members of Eco Club of Emax Group of Institutions has coming up with issues concerning environment from time to time. Taking time out of their studies, students and faculty members busily commune with shopkeepers at various places in Panchkula to spread the message of pollution caused by polythene bags. Highlighting their event as “Drive against use of polythene Bags”, enthusiasts went from shop to shop to aware and spread the message of pollution caused by polythene bags. Dr.Nidhi Mathur, President of the Eco Club of Emax said , “We are trying to educate the city dweller as well as the shop keeper of the haphazardness the polythene bags brings in the environment. We are emphasizing on the usage of cotton/ eco-friendly bags. Also, there are certain kinds of plastic bags available which can be used legally keeping healthy environment in mind. These are generally above 40 microns and have a logo – a triangle with 1 or 2 printed inside it. This means it is recyclable and can be used for grocery, food items, etc. Our main aim is to curtail the usage as much as possible.”

“Polythene is not only harmful and a source of pollution but detrimental to our economy as well. We should establish paper bags manufacturing units so that our unemployed youth earn their livelihood,” said Chairman of the College Om Prakash Aggarwal . He said that in accordance with the Central regulations, use of recycled or polythene bags of less than 20 microns has been banned.

Rajiv Bansal, Finance Secretary of the Group caim that emax eco-club is doing a “good job” in creating awareness among the public especially the rural population. Students associated with eco-clubs take out rallies and organze various activities and events to educate masses about environment.
